Not long after I graduated from college, I sat outside on my mom’s deck asking myself the million-dollar question: “What am I passionate about in my life?”
This question gave me something significant to pray about and ponder. What surfaced were basketball, kids, and encouraging people. So I thought, “Why not combine all of these passions and start a motivational youth basketball camp as a business?” The more I thought about it, the more excited I became. It started to burn inside of me.
The more I thought about it, I began to see how it could really make a powerful difference in the lives of these kids. I knew how foundational the early years of a child’s life are, so I started to think through the pillars that would be needed to build a culture on positive life-changing values. I was driven by passion, and a deep conviction was the fuel to keep it burning. Furthermore, I knew that if I could reach these kids at an early point in their lives we could use basketball as a vehicle to instill life-changing values.
When you are driven by passion, people see it in your eyes, hear it in your voice, experience it in your body language, and pick it up in the atmosphere. Passion is contagious! People want to be around passionate people, they want to buy from passionate people, they want to partner with passionate people, and they want to work for passionate people.
Here are three practical questions to ask yourself:
- Am I spending a majority of my time focused on passion areas?
- What should I do with my life now?
- What’s one step I can take towards a passion area?
