SubjectApproval for Emotional Intelligence Trainer/Coach Certification

Hi [Manager's Name],

I'm writing to request the company's support to attend the LEADx Certified EI Coach and Trainer Program on [DATE]. After completing this 1.5 day virtual train-the-trainer certification, we'll be able to scale EI skills that will drive collaboration, resilience, agility, presence, and decision quality.

Once certified, I would be able to:

  • Deliver EI workshops internally.
  • Administer and debrief validated EI assessments for individuals and teams.
  • Coach employees at all levels using research-backed tools.
  • Support leadership development initiatives without relying solely on external vendors.

Details are below.

Why Emotional Intelligence?

The business case for EI is well documented:

  • Leader EI explains 25% of the difference in direct-report performance (Miao et al., 2018; 12 studies, 2,764 leaders)
  • Higher EI predicts higher employee engagement (Miao et al., 2017; 120 studies, 29,000+ workers)
  • EI significantly predicts overall job performance (Gobelny et al., 2021; 99 studies, 17,000 participants)
  • Higher EI predicts more collaboration and less conflict (Miao et al., 2017; 68 studies, 16,000+ workers)

Additionally, the skills gap is only growing: emotional intelligence is consistently ranked among the most in-demand workplace skills for the decade ahead. In fact, six of the top eight skills listed in the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report are EI skills (resilience, agility, social influence, self-awareness and motivation, empathy and active listening, curiosity).

Why LEADx?

The program is based on the work of noted psychologist Dr. Travis Bradberry, author of the bestseller The New Emotional Intelligence, and is built on two decades of EI assessment data. Other organizations using LEADx EQ include the US Air Force, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Land O'Lakes, GE Healthcare, and LinkedIn.

What's the Business Case?

As we focus on [relevant company priority, e.g., developing our frontline managers, improving engagement scores, reducing conflict on a team], building internal EI coaching and training capability would let us address this in-house rather than relying on outside vendors for every session.

  1. Cost efficiency. A single externally facilitated workshop typically costs more than this entire certification. After certification, I can deliver unlimited internal sessions.
  2. Scalability. I could run EI workshops for [specific teams or audiences, e.g., new managers, the sales team, high-potential employees] on our schedule, at our pace.
  3. Immediate application. I'd plan to deliver a first internal workshop within [timeframe, e.g., 60 days] of certifying, starting with [pilot group].

What's the Investment?

  • A one-time fee of [insert current fee quoted by LEADx] for certification
  • An additional fee of $xx per EI assessment or $xxx for a complete hard-copy participant kit with one-year of nudges, coaching, and micro-learning for habit formation.

In exchange for the company's support, I'm committed to putting this certification to work: delivering internal sessions, debriefing assessments, and sharing what I learn with others in HR/L&D.
