Have you ever walked or driven the same route for a number of weeks, months, or even years? Only to become so accustomed to seeing the same old things along the way? The same trees, houses, people, cars, etc. You get so familiar with your surroundings that it almost becomes a part of who you are. As a matter of fact, you can become so familiar with your path that the time goes by faster and faster – almost like we’re being transported to our specific destination.
But one day, we are caught off guard by something we have never seen before. Maybe it’s a house or a tree in the distance, or a landscape we have never noticed. In light of this, we begin to question if this new discovery has always been there. Oftentimes, it has been! With this new lens from which to see, our perspective shift takes us to a new place on our familiar path. It takes our routine journey and brings some much-needed refreshment to the scenery we have grown way too accustomed to.
Before long, that new discovery opens us up to the possibility of other new things we failed to notice. Now the old beaten path becomes a sparkling new road to self-discovery.
This is what a perspective shift does in our lives. We can view our circumstances the same way day in and day out until one day we gain a unique perspective.
What same old process can you look at in a new light?
Maybe it’s an issue you are stuck on at work, or something about your daily routine that you’ve always viewed as an annoyance. Take a look through a new lens. You might open up to a new world of opportunities and even solve some problems in the process!
